| St. Mungo's welcomes Andrew Dick |
St.
Mungo's welcomed the Rev Andrew Dick on Sunday 22nd April.
Andrew will act as our Interim Moderator whilst we search for a
new minister now that Geoff has answered his calling to be an Army
Chaplain.
Andrew was joined by members of St. Mungo's
praise band to support his service with an alternative uplifting
musical accompaniment to our hymns and praises. Andrew also plays
guitar and joined the praise team and filled the church with music. The
organ was also used to lead a couple of the hymns and Eileen pulled out
all the stops for the final hymn "Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my
Father".
Andrew's talk with the children took the saying "here
is the church, here is the steeple, look inside and there are the
people", highlighting that the church is 'the people', not the
building, and not the minister. It was great that one or two of the
Sunday School children got the answer right, something the older
members often get wrong. For his sermon Andrew used a well known saying
from his native Musselburgh "Yin o' oo' (One of ours) as the basis of
his uplifting lesson about us all being one of Gods' children.
During
the service the Sunday School children presented Geoff with a going
away gift, as did the congregation with a quaich. As Sandy Robertson
the Session Clerk presenting said, "to help Geoff from 'quaiching' in his boots"!
May
God look after Geoff as he ventures into his new role which may take
him into hostile places with the Army, and the Lord give him
strength to carry on His good work. The prayers of us all at St.
Mungo's go with him. Read about Geoff's introduction to the Army
Chaplaincy service here
