Around
a dozen members from across the churches in Penicuik braved the
severe frosty morning weather, to gather at the precinct on
Saturday morning.
The
passing shoppers were entertained with a
wide selection of Christmas carols, including 'Hark! the herald angels
sing', 'We three kings of orient are', 'While shepherd's watched their
flocks by night' and many more with musical accompaniment from
Sheila Anderson and her 'Magical Music box'.
One suggestion
for future events was to project the words onto the walls of the nearby
shops. While technically challenging, we could project on to a shop
window of a vacant shop in the precinct. There was a selection to
choose from! This would make it easier for visitors and passing members
of the public to join in the singing. This year we used song
sheets, but whilst all the carols were on them, the order was not easy
to follow, being spread across 7 pages. I usually managed to join in by
verse 3 for the carols I was unfamiliar with.
Well
done to all our singers. On a cold and frosty morning, even though the
sun shone upon us, we still had to stamp our feet to keep from freezing
to the spot.
A great time was had by all who sang, and stopped to listen.
Why not join our Christmas Sunday carol concert service on 26 December at St. Mungo's? We can promise it will be warm and dry inside the church, regardless of what the weather will be outside.
| | You are also welcome to join the
Christmas Eve Friday 24th, all age (6.30pm) and/or
watchnight (11.30pm) services, and a Christmas Day Celebration
service on Saturday 25th (11.00am).
