Where Have all the Dads Gone  - 2nd March

Report by Jim Paterson

Early start to meet the kids and dads who turned up at 9.00am for the event on Saturday 2nd March.  Boxes of toys and games were strewn across the church hall floor waiting to be set up for the fun to begin.

Andy Turnbull was using his 'Messy Church' construction skills to build the large scalectrix race circuit. Funny how the cars seem to get stuck half way round! A bit of jiggling (technical term) here and there sorted the problem and a few laps warmed the cars up and they were ready to race. We also had a 'micro' scalectrix race car set, this one with a difference. Some of the children made a tower and crossing so that the monkey could cross the track in safety.

On other desks the games were being setup with snakes and ladders and tower building, and a Hospital surgeon game. Junior Monopoly was a favourite with Anna, and Katie McDonald. I joined them to be taught the rules of this version of the game, but still managed to lose. Sam McDonald came over to help but by then it was too late to save me from losing the game.

Back on the 'techy' side the Lego blocks were making unusual vehicles. With a selection of mechanical units such as a working Lego car engine, gearbox, and steering wheel we built what can best described as a Tractorsaurus, a fearsome looking machine.

Meantime Joan and Neil Cape were busy getting the breakfast of cereals, toast and croissants ready for the hungry kids and parents.

Where have all the Dads Gone is a great time for dads, and granddads to spend some fun time with their kids and grandkids to enjoy a wide selection of activities, and have breakfast as well.

Look out for the date of next event on this website.
