A Message from our minister Rev John Urquhart

To join contact Neil Cape, St. Mungo's  Session Clerk  to secure your place

Kirk in Penicuik (KIP)

Kirk In Penicuik is an expression of the shared life of the three Church of Scotland congregations in Penicuik. St. Mungo's, North & South & Howgate. A space for wider conversation, mutual support and resourcing for the Christian journey!

The initial activity for the group will be on Sunday October 25th at 4.pm. This will be the first of a series of monthly reflective prayer services held in the St. Mungo's church hall and will last 30-40 minutes. The plan is to link the themes of these monthly services to the 'Holy Habits' theme for the month (see below*) - for November that will be 'Fellowship'.

We will explore the overall idea of 'Holy Habits' through prayer and reflection. Some prayers may be 'live', others shown on the screen, and we can use recorded music.
As for the church service, we will be at 2m spacing, seated on chairs, and will have to wear masks and not sing. Again, as in church, we will need to record names and contact details for 'track and trace', and there will be a limit (around 28) on available places. Please, therefore, would you let me know if you'd like to come.

This is a first 'trial' service, and even if you can't come next week your thoughts would be welcome on the choice of day of the week and timing of the service. When would suit you best if this is something in which you'd like to participate? Sunday, weekday, morning, afternoon, evening? We chose 4pm on Sunday for this first service to avoid people having to come out on a winter evening, and giving time to enjoy the daylight beforehand.....but time and day of the week are not set in stone. Indeed, as Covid regulations change we may want to change these anyway.

Your thoughts would also be welcome on the content and format of the service - we can use the screen but not use handouts, and it will be difficult to have general participation with our masks on, but we can always try and see! We did wonder about asking for prayer points beforehand, which could be incorporated on the screen display. The idea would be to focus on the monthly 'Holy Habit', rather than the more personal intercessions we make at our weekly prayer meetings.

What do you think might work? Please let me know in good time before next Sunday if you'd like to come. Your comments are welcome at any time.
