| Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning - 5 October |
Report and photos - Jim Paterson
St.
Mungo's joined the Macmillan Cancer Support World's Biggest Coffee
Morning fundraising weekend on Saturday 5th October in the church hall.
Repeating the successful event of past years, the hall once again was
filled with fresh baking and lots of hot tea and coffee.
The
event was promoted by Food Facts Friends foodbank and drop in centre
who arranged tables set out with local businesses offering a wide range
of products for visitors to browse and purchase. Included in the
line-up were Scarves inspired by Tweed, Lemon Pamper Parlour, Body Shop
at Home, Paradis des Fleurs, Essenes Fragrance and Beauty and a double
helping from Penicuik Rotary offering gifts and children’s toys,
ideal for those soon to be bought Christmas presents.
The autumn
sun shone down on the visitors, including many Penicuik churches
members who took a break from their morning chores and shopping (Ed -
isn't that classed as a chore?) for a well earned break and a
chance to chat with friends new and old.
The organising team
included helpers from the foodbank, St. Mungo's and St. James the Less
churches, who had been busy baking, providing a great selection of
scones, pancakes, fruit loaves and cakes, to both buy and choose to
have with your tea or coffee.
Making a donation to Macmillan
Cancer Support served as the entry, as no ticket required. Coffee and
tea was served at the table so no need to even rise for a refill.
A raffle and quiz also helped add to the Macmillan donations
Books,
CD, and DVD selection attracted a few people looking for a keenly
priced bargain to read over the weekend, as did the table heaving with
home baking for sale.
Gordon MacDonald was on the entry table
with many visitors offering that something extra as they arrived, all
going to this good cause.
By the end of the morning the few items of home baking left were kept for the after Sunday service gathering for tea and coffee.
Well done and thank you to all who contributed to this worthwhile cause.
Update - Penicuik Rotary stand raises £130 for Macmillan Making the final total reached £1205.31, plus many with added Gift Aid.
Thanks to everyone who donated.
