Story and photos - Jim Paterson
This months theme was 'Your body is a temple' where we thought about how we look after, value and use our bodies to praise God.
We
started with some fun with games of find the body, where
the children had to find different 'body parts' hidden around the room
and then colour in a sheet to match what was found.
Making
a body by joining parts together, pinning on arms, legs, and colouring
in with clothes, adding extra items to make the finished 'person'. The
important part was to ensure that it could move, just like we do.
One 'body' ha dmultiple arms and legs, ideal for getting around quickly
I guess.
Praise streamers used card and spaper to make something
to wave as we sang later in the church, praising god for making us and
loving us.
A Praise and Prayer Banner captured things to show
others some of the things we are thankful for. Some were very touching,
with one girl choosing to remember her recently lost uncle to cancer.
As we approach Remembrance Sunday this act was very
poignant.
The 'body beetle' was a beetle with a difference, asking 'how much is your body worth?' How can you look after it?
Fruity
Faces allowed us to make faces with biscuits, cream, pastilles for
eyes, fruit gums and smarties for noses. The temptation was to eat what
you made straight away, but some of us kept their faces for later.
Neil
Cape setup a physical challenge to test how fit our bodies hav eto be.
Using skips, star jumps, and throws tested not only physical strength
but mental dexterity to throw the ball into a bucket. The scores were
kept on a big 'thermometer' graph so we could see who the winner was by
the end of the afternoon.
We
headed over to the church for our story and song time, where the
puppets, operated by some of the senior children, led the singing which
the audience joined in with.
A meal together in the hall allowed us to swap stories of the days activities before gethering up our crafts and heading home.
The next Messy Church will be on Sunday 7 December, 4.00 to 6.00pm in the church hall.
