The
February Messy Church on Sunday 3rd took the theme 'The Story of Hannah - Pray as Hannah prayed'.
The afternoon started with plenty of 'messy crafts', some artistic while others could be eaten as well.
Moasic
notebook cover - Design
and decorate your own prayer diary.
Prayer
candle holder - Decorate
a tealight candle holder.
Prayer
hand - Draw
round your hand and write a prayer reminder on each finger.
Dead
of night experience - Help
to create a dark tunnel using chairs, blankets, boxes and more. Pretend
to be Samuel, Hannah’s son as he walked through the temple
in the dark. This one attracted lots of the kids and some dads
too. Andy Turnbull who is one of our resident 'builders' once again did
a great job with sheets of cardboard and blankets to make a really long
tunnel. It was really dark in the tunnel so it must really have felt
like Samuel walking though the temple.
Phone
Line - See
if you can make your own phone line using yoghurt pots and string.
This was the old tin can and string phone that parents would
remember from their own childhood. Brought up to date with modern
yoghurt pots, the effect was jus tthe same. As you can see there were
some 'crossed lines' as people tried lots of 'calls' at the same time.
Some disconnections too as the string was stretched a bit too far on
occasions.
Blessings
Box - Make
your own blessings box. Fill it with blessings that you can then
pass on to someone special. These were great as once decorated the
children selected from a wide range of blessing requests to rollup and
place inside their boxes.
Get
real! -‘Whatever
your mood, get real with God’. Try out our emotion notice board. A free hand to put up what was on your mind.
Marbles -Come
and have a go at our marble experiment. Neil Cape organised a very
technical experiment. Marbles were dropped into one of two bottles,
each with 'God answers your Prayers' on them, and timed how long they
took to reach the bottom of the bottle. It took about 4 seconds for one
of the bottles, and about 4 minutes on the other (it was full of
syrup). The moral of the experiment was that God always answers our
prayers, but some prayers take longer than others to receive an answer!
Candle
cupcakes -Decorate
a yummy candle cupcake. This one was really good as the end result
could be eaten right away. With cream topping, sprinkles, buttons, and
a candle available for the kids to decorate. The end results were very
tasty looking. It
was soon time for 'Song Time' and the group of musicians led a series
of songs that involved the children with all the action to numbers like
'Our God is a great big God'. The story of Hannah formed the story
time, before we all came together for a meal. This month we enjoyed a chilli, or vegetable chilli and rice, followed by chocolate pudding and custard.
| Messy Take Aways this month
- Choose
a landmark near your home that reminds you to say ‘hello’
to God. For example, it might be a lamp-post or a tree. Use
to remind you to talk to God this month.
- Find
out what sort of food makes everyone in your family feel happy and have
a meal that includes everyone’s favourite ingredients.
