Sparklers light up the dark night.

Messy Church - 4 November

The  November Messy Church on Sunday 4th took the theme 'Who is Jesus'. A great turnout of children and parents arrived at St. Mungo's church hall to see what it was all about.

Everybody gathers for the meal

The afternoon started with 'Messy Crafts' in the hall.  A range of interesting things to do and make were available, each with a message

Jesus is the Light of the World. Making holographic spirals that caught the light and bring a sparkle into life.
Jesus is a miracle maker. Making pictures of a boat in a storm and thinking about the amazing miracles Jesus did. A challenge to make a boat and fill it with marbles provided a bit of fun and skill to see whose boat could hold the most marbles.
Jesus is a shepherd. Creating 'yummy' sheep biscuits, while thinking about the way a shepherd looks after his sheep, just like Jesus looks after us. The biscuits proved very popular as they could be eaten after completion.....
Jesus is our saviour. The children made colourful stained glass crosses, out of coloured paper for safety..
Jesus is our friend. This activity made friendship boxes to give to someone special, and to think about what it means to be a friend and to always be there for someone.
Jesus is our leader. The paint walk was a great attraction, with a great message, following the path of Jesus.
Jesus is the son of God. Creating a scene of baby Jesus in the manger using an envelope and wool.

A Creative Prayer Zone was also made available with the family prayer box. Notes put in the box were prayed for by someone from the prayer team.

As the rain had stopped we managed activities and games outside in the garden as well.

Andrew Dunsire and Graham McDonald led a song time which required lots of actions from the audience to help understand the meaning of the words. A story time allowed us all to gather round and sit down to listen for a while.

           Song time gathering

The meal of 'bangers, mash and beans' went down really well as by now everyone was hungry. A pudding to finish before we headed out into the garden, by now getting dark, to set of sparklers and light the darkness.

As everyone headed for home we were left with this month’s Messy Take Aways:                                                        Song time actions
  • Go for a family night walk. Think about Jesus being the light of the world as you walk. Switch your torch off and see how much harder it is to see your way when it’s dark.
  • Think of a friend you have had a disagreement with or fallen out with. Secretly give them their favourite chocolate bar.

Come along to the Christmas Messy Church on 2nd December. Same place, same time.
