| Penicuik Christmas Lights On - 6 December |
Pressing the plunger to switch on the lights
The
afternoon of Saturday 6 December was a freezer for the switching on of
the lights in Penicuik. The crowds who came to see the event were well
wrapped up and the childrens faces were glued to the silver band and
the carol singers who gave an uplifting performance of some favourite
Christmas Carols.
Earlier in the afternoon the Pipe band had
entertained the crowd, and the children of the Oasis Foodbank
organisers provided a dance routine before joining the carol singers.
Carol singers accompanied by the Silver Band
Members
of the churches in Penicuik joined the carol singers, along with
Hope4Penicuik members, with Joan Cape from St. Mungo's and Sheila
Anderson from Glencorse sporting Hope4Penicuik sweatshirts. With Joan
was husband Neil, and Agnes Haggart from St. Mungo's, and Roberta and
Forbes Mackenzie from the North Church. Balancing the
presentation was Sheil Anderson accompanied by St. Mungo's members Bill
and Margaret Webster, Dorothy Paterson and friends.
After
their dancing the children from Oasis foodbank organisers also joined
the carol singers, dressed in their very seasonal red and white Santa
suits.
As darkness started to fall and the clock headed for
4.00pm, it was time to turn the lights on. The Penicuik Town Crier
called up on the 'switch on' party which included Hunters Lass Lisa
Henderson, accompanied by Santa, surrounded by local
children, to press the plunger and light up the decorations throughout
Penicuik.
St. Mungo's church has also lit up its tree outside and turned the floodlights on for the Christmas season.
If
you come along to our church on Sunday's you will see another fully
decorated tree inside the church. A great backdrop for the advent
Sunday services led by the talented Alastair Bruce who is preaching to
us throughout December, including the forthcoming Nativity Play
on Sunday 21st December. Don't miss them.
