The Praise Band from Left to Right: Andrew Dunsire (guitar),  David Hunter (drums), David Steel (bass guitar), Joan Cape (vocals) Graham Mcdonald (piano), and Stephen Elson (Guitar).

The evening joint Penicuik churches service on Sunday 15 July which was led by the St. Mungo's Praise Band
attracted over 50 people, providing a series of uplifting praise songs that had the congregation raising their voices and hands to the heavens. The event also told us of a forthcoming Alpha course planned for the autumn.

We started the evening with three songs of praise, staring with the well known "To God be the glory, great things He has done" followed by "
Shout to the North" and finishing with "I heard the voice of Jesus say"

Andrew led a prayer for us all before we watched a video clip, called "starfish" where the message is very clear. In the face of advesity and seemingly hopelesness the effect on even one person whose life is
"saved" is incalculable and the inspiration to us all.should not be overlooked.

You can see this clip here

We continued the praise, singing "How deep is the Fathers love for us",which was followed with our second video clip, "The Story of Blondin" which explores "How Can I have Faith?". The true story of Blondin is a great example of what faith looks like; not just words but actions and putting your money where your mouth is. Watch it here

We followed the clip with singing "This is my desire to honour You", as sung by Matt Redman (10000 Reasons),, after which Bill Webster told us about Alpha and the proposed course in the autumn. .

The Alpha course is open to everyone interested in discovering what Christianity is about. It is designed primarily for people who aren't churchgoers and each course is open to everyone who would like to attend.

People attend Alpha for a wide variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples' beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is.

Many of the attendees have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.  If this is you then come, relax, eat, share your thoughts and explore the meaning of life with us.

Bill is keen to hear from both people who have not tried the course, and those who have completed the course and would be willing to be involved with this new event.

Bills talk ended with a video clip of personal experiences of people attending an Alpha course. You can watch it here

We ended our praise service with "Bless the Lord, O my soul" .

Many people gathered after the service to discuss Alpha and how to join in the forthcoming events.

More information on the proposed Alpha course soon on this website.
