Y we need the Y |
 From
L to R - Keith MacIntosh (Y Board Chairman), Rev Hugh Davidson, Rev
Lynsay Downs, Rev Ruth Halley (Y Board Member), Rev Ian Cathcart,
Andy Longman, Claire Gillies (Centre Manager)
St. Mungo's is supporting the petition urging Midlothian Council to reinstate the £35000 cut in the running cost grant to Penicuik YMCA -YWCA in the 3 years to 31 March
2018. An open letter to councillors has been written by Penicuik
church ministers, the Rev Ruth Halley (Penicuik North Kirk), Rev Ian
Cathcart (Penicuik South Church), Rev Linsay Downs (St James the Less
Church) and Rev Hugh Davidson (St Mungo’s Church),urging them to
reconsider.
We featured the story in the February issue of our
church newsletter the Mungo Messenger, and Andy Longman from the
YMCA/YWCA spoke to the congregation before the service on Sunday 1st
February.
The YMCA - YWCA at the top of the Queensway is
funded from a number of sources, but the Midlothian grant is critical,
and the proposed cut puts at risk much needed and unique services to
children, young people and families, including children at risk and
those with special needs. Also under threat is the employment of 19
members of staff. The cuts must be reconsidered to avoid irreparable
loss of a valued community hub.
A copy of the petition for your signature of support is available in the church vestibule.
You can also read more about this on line at www.penicuikymca-ywca.org.uk/ or on their Facebook page, ww.facebook.com/pages/Penicuik-YMCAYWCA/100261063416572 where you can sign the on-line petition
The
Y Facebook page latest update reports passing 250 signatures on their
online petition. “Thank you all so much! We have even more names
on paper copies available at the Y! Let's hope we get our funding
reinstated!"
They have been overwhelmed by all the kind wishes
from all over the world including France and America supporting the Y
and signing the Y petition. The people of Penicuik's ongoing support
means so much.

Please support this plea, either using the petition in the church or on-line. This is to help our local community.
