| Summer Fair - 22nd June |
Report and photos - Jim Paterson
The
forecast was not too bright for Saturday 22nd June, but after a damp
start the sun came out and the crowds appeared, heading for St. Mango's
church Summer Fair.
The
ladies of the social team had laid out the tables with a wide selection
of 'goodies'. Mary Paterson had setup the 'bottle stall' with a wide
selection of wines and soft drinks. I spotted a bottle of bath salts on
the table. Not sure how it got there, must have escaped from the
tombola table!. With three tickets for a pound I thought I couldn't
lose. How wrong you can be. not a winner on any ticket!
But if
you can't win something then there were plenty of goodies to buy,
including home baking so I 'bagged' a fruit loaf which will go well
with morning coffee next week.
The Bric a Brac table
had plenty of interesting items, but my house and shed have lots of
similar items so no need to add to that.
Children's
toys, books and clothes were next, ideal for that birthday or Christmas
present, including some hand knitted Teddy Bears and baby jackets in
all different colours.
Now
to the Tombola. Having failed on the bottle stall surely a win was on
the cards. How wrong I was again. The odds on drawing four blanks is pretty
slim, but I managed it.
Heather
Boyle had made a great selection of greeting cards, for all occasions,
and created quite a lot of interest with the visitors, who took the
opportunity to choose a selection for future use.
The selection
of books, CD's and DVD's had grown, with new titles added to those
thrillers, romance and non fiction books available.
Time for
some refreshments, with tea and coffee plus a selection of home baked
scones and cake available. Just to make it feel like summer there were
cream scones topped with strawberry, a real tasty bite to finish the
morning with.
A
total of just over £500 was made on the day for St.
Mungo's funds. Thanks to everyone who turned out to support their
church.
