Find
out more from Rev Hugh Trevor, who has visited this area several times,
when he visits us at St. Mungo's for the Sunday service 4 March. |

Your
Kirk Session agreed that we take up an offer from Lothian Presbytery to
twin St. Mungo’s church Penicuik with a group of churches in
Saontalpur in the East Himalaya Diocese of the Church in North India.
Twinning is a great way for Presbyteries and Congregations to link with our Partner Churches across the world.
Why Saontalpur in the East Himalayas?
There
is a strong desire of that area of India to renew their relationship
with the Church of Scotland. That relationship started about 1870 when
Scottish missionaries, especially ones from the Lothian Presbyteries,
went to India to preach the gospel and start churches.
Before
you all rush to head east for a missionary visit, we will first setup a
corresponding link, a bit like pen friends, where we exchange what is
going on in our respective communities. When setup we will swap, some
national news, some local Presbytery news, some local church news and
some personal news.
We already keep you up to date with church
news through the newsletter, and our website. Social Media is big in
the Diocese, being fairly remote from paper based post services, so our
church Facebook and Twitter feeds should help.
Janis Hogg who
many of you know is also our Christian Aid coordinator, Agnes
Ovenstone, and Jim Paterson are leading this exciting project that
reaches places we could only dream of.
We have just heard back from our first email communication to Saontalpur. Looks like we have lift off.
We
will hear more about what we can all do as part of this twinning when
Rev Hugh Trevor visits St. Mungo's to tell us during the service on
Sunday 3rd March
