The
symbol of the World Day of Prayer was designed by a young Irish artist
in 1982, the year when the service was prepared by the women of
Ireland, and adopted as the International logo. The
design comprises arrows converging from the four points of the compass,
four figures kneeling in prayer, the Celtic Cross and a circle
representing the world and our unity through all our diversity.
Angie Fox, from Norfolk, the artist chosen for the EWNI Service: Freedom: an open door to a pathway across an endless open vista. Justice: broken chains. God’s Peace and Forgiveness: the dove of peace and a peace lily breaking through the pavement Over all a rainbow
which has come to represent all these things from the story of Noah
through to the modern day. From a sign of God’s covenant with man
to a symbol of unity between different sections of our modern community.

Interrogation time
The
world Day of Prayer service in Penicuik will take place on Friday 4
March in St. James the Less Church, starting at 7.00pm.
This years theme is
“I Know the Plans I Have for You”, based on Jeremiah
29:1-14 (New Century Bible). God is always with us, and God gives us
hope at all times: when we are happy or sad or in between, when bad
things happen to us, in times of change, disappointments and loss, and
at times of joy and celebration.
This years service has been created by the women of England, Wales and Northern Ireland (EWNI).
They
will use the Bible text “I know the plans I have for you”
from Jeremiah to reflect on some of the issues facing us today:
poverty, domestic abuse and disability, finding hope in difficult
situations and encouragement in the help we can give to each other.
‘I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future. And I will bring you back from your captivity. And I will bring you back to this place. (Jeremiah 29:11-14)
We trust that God has plans for all of us and we know that we should hope for a good future.
World
Day of Prayer is an international ecumenical organisation which enables
women all over the world to share the ideas and concerns of the writing
country. The World Day of Prayer service on the first Friday in March,
is distributed to the rest of the world, along with a Bible reflection,
country background, children’s and - for the first time - young
people’s activities.
All
this work will come to fruition on Friday 4 March 2022 when services
will take place beginning in Samoa and moving on through New Zealand
and Australia, across Asia, Africa and Europe and finally the United
States and South America, before finishing in American Samoa.
You can join this global event at St. James the Less Church, starting at 7.00pm.Friday 4 March.
