Destined
for the under privileged children, and adults of eastern Europe, this
years selection included even more teddy bears. Barbara Sprott just
cannot put down the knitting needles of an evening. 60 little bears
with a selection of knee blankets was the result when she had
finished.
A
total of 36 blankets, in a wide selection of colours and patterns
were knitted along with a huge selection of hats and glove sets for
young babies, children and adults. These and the teddy bears
will find their way into the Blythswood Care Shoe Box Appeal which
will be shipped to reach their destination for Christmas.
Organiser Sheila Haig gave a
big thank you in front of the
congregation, before the service, to all who contributed to the knitting of a total of 278 items. The gifts will bring the Christmas cheer to many
who would otherwise go without. Sheila said "I think that
announcing the event back in April helped, with many of the
contributors "pacing" themselves rather than trying to rush at
the end".
Sheila also said that St. Mungo's will
repeat the event next Christmas, so plenty of notice given.
However I'm sure Sheila will remind us again in the new year.
Meantime sit back and congratulate yourselves on a job well
done!
The St. Mungo's gift will be collected by
Blythswood Care and shipped out to Romania, along with gifts from many
other churches and charitable organisations in time for
Christmas.
